Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Kamrup Express narrowly avoided a potential accident on Saturday night on the Howrah-Burdwan (Main) branch of Eastern Railway, following a technical glitch involving the train's pantograph. The incident occurred before the train entered Bandel station, temporarily disrupting train operations in the area.
According to railway sources, the pantograph of Kamrup Express broke at around 7:35 PM. Railway technical staff promptly addressed the issue at Bandel station, successfully repairing the equipment within an hour. The train resumed its journey toward Burdwan at 8:30 PM.
While the situation was swiftly managed, the breakdown caused a temporary disruption in the movement of trains on the Howrah-Burdwan main branch. The delays were compounded by the ongoing interlocking system maintenance at Janai Road station on the Howrah-Burdwan chord branch, which has already resulted in the cancellation and rerouting of several trains.
Kamrup Express had departed from Howrah on schedule and was expected to continue its journey without further delays after the pantograph repair. Passengers on the train commended the railway staff for their swift action in resolving the issue.
Meanwhile, railway officials have urged passengers to check for updated schedules, as the dual impact of technical disruptions and maintenance work could lead to further delays or cancellations.
The Eastern Railway authorities emphasized the importance of routine maintenance and quick technical responses to ensure the safety and reliability of train operations. The incident underscores the need for robust infrastructure to manage the increasing demands on the region’s railway network.
